A great rock and roll musical with all the elements of the fun Fifties; the milk bar, the Saturday night dance, the car and the juke box. All the kids in the ‘in crowd’ are excited about the big dance on Saturday night. Rivals Paula and Cindy plan to convince Brad the coolest boy in town, to take them despite the efforts of the ‘want to be cool’ Trev and Tony who are desperate to accompany them to the dance. Brad is actually a shy boy who is obsessed with getting his old car to go. His friends, Arthur and Bill try to get him to the dance. Everyone is going except Lizzie, the dowdy waitress at Nick and Gina’s milk bar. Lizzie has a heart of gold but doesn’t have the money for the latest gear. The ‘in crowd’ tease her about her look. Lizzie’s friends plan to help lonely Lizzie get to the dance. Nick proudly drives her. She makes a stunning entrance at the dance and even catches Brad’s eye! Paula and Cindy learn that it is the person you are, not what you wear that is important. A fabulous show that addresses important issues such as peer pressure in a fun and contemporary way.
Category B: 75-80 minutes of fun. 10 leads. 12 great songs. Chorus groups of local kids at the milk bar, dance, etc.
